Contact: Brian Coughlin, Director 2004 Job Growth and Investment in Butler County, Ohio More than Doubles the Combined Total Growth for the Previous Two Years. Hamilton, OH, March 23, 2005 -- The Butler County Board of Commissioners and the Butler County Alliance, a public/private economic development partnership, announced today that the County experienced record growth in 2004. "Butler County’s growth in 2004 outpaced the combined growth of both 2002 and 2003 in jobs created; jobs retained; and total investment in industrial, commercial, and retail economic development projects," said Butler County Alliance Chairman Joe Kramer, Executive Vice President of Henkle Schueler & Associates. The 45 new construction and expansion projects in Butler County created 3,115 new jobs in 2004 versus a combined 2,108 new jobs in 2002 and 2003; retained a total of 6,123 existing jobs in 2004 compared to 369 jobs retained in 2002 – 2003; and saw $365,122,309 of new investment in real estate and personal property versus $240,280,750 in new investment for 2002 – 2003. In addition, 3,723,387 sq. ft. of manufacturing, office, and commercial space was leased or sold in 2004 in Butler County as compared to 1,538,751 sq. ft. in 2003, and 3,034,344 sq. ft. in 2002. "While many parts of the country are struggling to recover from the recent recession and the loss of manufacturing jobs it caused, over 700 new manufacturing jobs were created in Butler County in 2004," said Butler County Board of Commissioners President Chuck Furmon. Furmon said that even during the recession years of 2002 and 2003 half of the more than 2,100 new jobs created in Butler County were in the manufacturing sector. Examples include a $25.7 million expansion at Pacific Manufacturing in Fairfield that will add 250 new jobs at this Toyota supplier; the expansion of two O'Gara Hess & Eisenhardt plants that will create 200 new jobs at its West Chester plant and 60 at its Fairfield facility; a $7 million expansion project in Monroe at Dayton Technologies that will add 45 new jobs and retain 345 positions in 550, 000 sq. ft. of additional manufacturing space; and a $5.2 million expansion at Middletown's Granger Plastics that will create 25 new jobs and retain 30 existing jobs. A major $88 million, 500,000 sq. ft. expansion at Cincinnati Financial Corporation's headquarters office in Fairfield will create 500 new jobs and retain 2,923 current positions as the company reinforces its ties and commitment to the community and the county. Another 100,000 sq. ft. of new office space at Beckette Towne Center in West Chester will create 50 new jobs with an investment of $12 million. In distribution, warehousing, and logistics 2,090,131 sq. ft. of space was either leased or sold in Butler County during 2004. In West Chester, Dell leased 427,926 sq. ft. facility that will employ 665 with a project cost of $31 million. Hospital expansion and growth also continued to thrive in Butler County. Ft. Hamilton Hospital in Hamilton is completing an $18 million, 43,000 sq. ft. expansion that will add 185 jobs to the hospital's staff and Fairfield's Mercy Hospital bio-medical expansion will cost $4.5 million, add 100,000 sq. ft. to the hospital, and create 100 new jobs. ###
